SUMMARY:Tony Millet - Small Changes in the Garden Design to Include Orchids
DESCRIPTION:Tony Millet has been growing orchids for 30 years\, hybridizing orchids for 20 years. He enjoys making hybrids using hard to find\, rare\, or different color forms of species. Many of Tony’s hybrids have been AOS awarded and he has received over 16 AOS awards.  He is a Volunteer hybridizer and seedling grower at The Bonnet House in Fort Lauderdale\, Florida. He was also Past President and Editor of Suffolk Orchid Society\, Long Island\, New York.\nCore Concepts\, Style\, and Design\n\nYear-Round Maintenance: Developing consistent schedules and routines to manage a tropical or transitional landscape throughout every season.\nBalance of Color and Plant Heights: Designing dynamic visual layers by strategically arranging short\, medium\, and tall plant species while balancing color palettes.\nAnnuals and Perennials: Selecting appropriate seasonal and multi-year plants\, with careful attention to climate and USDA hardiness zone restrictions.\nPest Control: Managing and preventing common regional landscape pests effectively.\n\n\nSelection of Plant Material\n\nRoot Structures and Shrubs: Curating foundational garden textures using a combination of traditional bulbs\, tubers\, and vibrant camellias.\nConifers and Accent Trees: Incorporating structured dwarf varieties and colorful weeping maples into the overall layout.\nFoliage and Exotic Species: Transitioning from large-leaf anthuriams down to delicate miniature ivies\, and anchoring the design with specialized orchids.
