Discover the wonders of the marine world at the Nova Southeastern University Marine Environmental Education Center (MEEC), a unique collaboration between Broward County Parks and Nova Southeastern University. MEEC was established with a shared vision to educate and inspire both the local community and visiting tourists through the captivating presence of our resident educational sea turtles and the natural splendor of South Florida’s coastal environment.
Housed within the historic Carpenter House, a charming 1941 structure built by Hank Carpenter on the grounds of Hollywood North Beach Park, MEEC represents a testament to preservation and education. Broward County’s acquisition of this property, honoring the Carpenter family’s wishes against development, has allowed for the creation of this invaluable public education facility.
We invite you to step back in time while exploring the original rooms, fixtures, hardwood floors, and cabana house, all while immersing yourself in our engaging educational displays and observing our live marine inhabitants.
The mission of the NSU Marine Environmental Education Center is to provide outstanding marine education, interactive learning, and research with a focus on endangered sea turtles.
The vision of the NSU Marine Environmental Education Center, a partnership between Nova Southeastern University and Broward County, is to be a premier marine environmental education facility that engages residents and visitors by increasing conservation awareness and action in a way that ultimately results in greater protection of our marine and coastal environments.
